My third and final workshop has been a pull in stop motion. As I hope to specialise in stop motion I have made an extra effort to get this right. Before doing any animating, myself and two fellow animators found a log and pulled it with washing line to get a feel for the action, and work out what choreography we wanted. They also gave me a great reference for strong key poses and an idea of good timing. Here are the photos and video of myself acting this out;
From the video I took screenshots of the strongest key poses, and wrote down the timing of the action, as a guide whilst I was animating;
From this I was able to work out my storyboard;
I animated three tests to get the hang of what I wanted to create, and often acted out what I was animating again and again till I could animate it almost without thinking;
I took the elements of these tests that went well into my final shoot, trying not to repeat mistakes from the tests. About halfway through the computer broke down completely, I had to carry on with an hour to spare and a change in the light which I managed to minimise in post-production editing. The limited time and being thrown off my stride meant the last third is jittery and poorly timed, plus the pins in my rock snapped off so it swings from side to side. I plan to try to find time to shoot again, but it may be difficult now first years don't have priority.
